Here’s some quick tips on what to do with a running injury:
1. What the why? Work out any significant changes in ‘load’: distance, speed, elevation, surface etc. Has it led to extra pressure on your body and now its having a whinge via pain? Or figure out what parts of your body are not moving well and creating extra pressure on other bits.
2. Why not strength? Lots of runners focus on stretching but there is actually more evidence that strengthening makes a bigger difference to injury prevention and injury rehab. So talk to your physio about how to get stronger rather than longer
3. Can you change something about how you’re running so you can still keep going? For example – If you change how your foot strikes and maybe shorten your distance will your Achilles pain allow it? Your injury is not the boss of you!
